    Title:Efficient search and localization of human actions in video databases

    Abstract:As digital video databases grow, so grows the problem of effectively navigating through them. In this paper we propose a novel content-based video retrieval approach to searching such video databases, specifically those involving human actions, incorporating spatio-temporal localization. We outline a novel, highly efficient localization model that first performs temporal localization based on histograms of evenly spaced time-slices, then spatial localization based on histograms of a 2-D spatial grid. We further argue that our retrieval model, based on the aforementioned localization, followed by relevance ranking, results in a highly discriminative system, while remaining an order of magnitude faster than the current state-of-the-art method. We also show how relevance feedback can be applied to our localization and ranking algorithms. As a result, the presented system is more directly applicable to real-world problems than any prior content-based video retrieval system. ? 2014 IEEE.

    Abstract:The paper investigates the dynamics of a new multiple bipolar multiple Dielectric Barrier Discharges (DBD) actuator using in large-scale flow control. Particle image velocimetry experiments are performed to characteristic the effectiveness of the multiple bipolar DBD plasma actuator. The results show that the mutual interaction between the electrodes, one major disadvantage of traditional DBD characterized by reverse discharge can be entirely avoided, and a constantly accelerating electric wind velocity can be obtained by using the new multiple bipolar DBD plasma actuator. ?     Abstract:Tone-mapping technique which can convert high dynamic range (HDR) to low dynamic range (LDR) images provides accurately visualization of HDR images on standard LDR displays. Most of the existing tone-mapping method could not realize real time processing while preserving good visualization. Utilizing an adaptive three-section lookup table, this paper proposes an effective, high quality, real time technique to convert 12-bit images to 8-bit image which can preserve abundant details and high contrast simultaneously. Experiment results show that this method can improve the weak signals of the image greatly, and the low luminance details can be observed distinctly on an 8-bit monitor. ? 2014 IEEE.

    Abstract:Fast-steering mirror system demands higher accuracy and fast responding speed to track targets, but the conventional PID controllers cannot meet the demands. Instead, the fuzzy PID control can greatly improve the capturing and tracking capacities to high-speed dynamic targets. So we apply the fuzzy-PID controller in the positioning loop of the stabilized system, not only improving the transient process of the control system and decreasing the overshoot, but also enhancing the accuracy of tracking stabilization and response.     Abstract:A 2-DOF manipulator is modeled in PROE. In MATLAB, inverse kinematics is solved by geometric method. The desired trajectory, angular velocity and angular acceleration of each joint are obtained by the linear interpolation of parabola transition to complete the kinematics planning of the manipulator. The velocity of the end-point and the kinematics analysis are got by Newton-Euler method. In PROE, the expected trajectory of the end point is got by the simulation of the position planning. Kinematics simulation on the model is made in ADAMS. The simulation results are consistent with theoretical calculations to verify the correctness of the theory computing, which can provide an effective basis for the control of the manipulator. ?     Abstract:Pointing at the defect of Space Frequency Algorithm in abstracting detail information used in Regional Feature Self-Adaptive Image Fusion Algorithm, an improved Spatial Frequency Algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the histogram specification is used to adjust pixel values of the infrared image. Secondly, the multi-scale decomposition is performed on visible image and the adjusted infrared image using Contourlet transform. Finally, low-frequency sub-band is fused using a rule based on Regional Energy rather than the simple weighted sum method. Other sub-bands are fused using the Improve Spatial Frequency rule. The experimental results show that the proposed method preserves more details of the visible image and obtains clear target information in the infrared image. This paper has researched object based video synopsis technology with the surveillance video of a neighborhood and an indoor surveillance video as research target, presenting all necessary activities in a short time by displaying objects concurrently, even if they originally occurred at different time.     Title:Integrating conventional and inverse representation for face recognition

    Abstract:Representation-based classification methods are all constructed on the basis of the conventional representation, which first expresses the test sample as a linear combination of the training samples and then exploits the deviation between the test sample and the expression result of every class to perform classification. However, this deviation does not always well reflect the difference between the test sample and each class. With this paper, we propose a novel representation-based classification method for face recognition. This method integrates conventional and the inverse representation-based classification for better recognizing the face. It first produces conventional representation of the test sample, i.e., uses a linear combination of the training samples to represent the test sample. Then it obtains the inverse representation, i.e., provides an approximation representation of each training sample of a subject by exploiting the test sample and training samples of the other subjects. Finally, the proposed method exploits the conventional and inverse representation to generate two kinds of scores of the test sample with respect to each class and combines them to recognize the face. The paper shows the theoretical foundation and rationale of the proposed method. Moreover, this paper for the first time shows that a basic nature of the human face, i.e., the symmetry of the face can be exploited to generate new training and test samples. As these new samples really reflect some possible appearance of the face, the use of them will enable us to obtain higher accuracy. The experiments show that the proposed conventional and inverse representation-based linear regression classification (CIRLRC), an improvement to linear regression classification (LRC), can obtain very high accuracy and greatly outperforms the naive LRC and other state-of-the-art conventional representation based face recognition methods. The accuracy of CIRLRC can be 10% greater than that of LRC. ? 2013 IEEE.

    Abstract:This paper proposes an approach to design a simulation method based on Adams and Simulink to improve performance of the stable platform. First, this paper gives an Adams/Simulink co-simulation method of airborne stable platform. Second, it designs mechanic model in Adams and control model in Simulink. Finally, simulate mechanic and control model of airborne stable platform, the simulation result shows that the co-simulation of Adams and Simulink is feasible. In the Adams model, it designs different error factors as follows: friction disturbance, motor disturbance, aircraft vibration disturbance and gear backlash. The simulation result is further close to the actual situation. Therefore, the co-simulation method of this paper is better than traditional simulink method. The design of co-simulation has guiding significance for improving the mechanic and control module of airborne stable platform. ?     Abstract:This paper presents the layout of achromatic snapshot imaging polarimeter (SIP) using modified Savart plates (MSPs) and working under nature light. The hybrid (refractive-diffractive) lenses are used to achieve the achromatic point-spread function (PSF), and the design probe the four Stokes vectors of the object by using polarization analyzing optics comprising two MSPs, a half wave plate, and an analyzer. In comparison with the monochromatic or quasi-monochromatic SIP using MSPs reported previously, the most remarkable property of the proposed layouts is to have the capability of directly detecting the object with natural illumination. Also, the configuration is more easily manipulated and robust than achromatic conventional Savart polariscopes reported previously in probing the object with axial movement.     Abstract:In order to observe night vision image easily, a new image fusion method is designed to improve the detail information of night vision images in a simple and efficient way. Instead of the traditional Multi-resolution analysis and spatial transform approach, the designed method highlights the detail information of night vision images by phase modulation and image enhancement technique. In the designed approach, the phase spectrum and amplitude spectrum of the visible and infrared images are extracted using FFT firstly, and then the phase spectra of two images are exchanged and the IFFT is applied to the processed images to produce phase information images. To compensate for the blurring caused by phase modulation, the high-frequency information of the processed infrared image is segmented and applied to the reconstruction of the color night vision image. Finally, color night vision image is fused by assigning the two-modulated images to red and green channels respectively, and the segmented image to blue channel. The experimental results show that the details of the fused image by the new method are richer than those of the images fused by the traditional methods, and the designed algorithm with a little amount of calculation can be easily realized in real-time processing systems. ?
